Why is oxygen so important?
On a daily basis, an average adult consumes 2 kg of food, 1 liter of water, and nearly 550 liters of oxygen. Astonishingly, 90% of our energy derives from oxygen, while the rest comes from food and water. The human brain, comprising just 2% of body weight, consumes 25% of the oxygen we breathe. This essential gas fuels the energy cycle that keeps us alive. Insufficient oxygen in the tissues triggers detrimental events, leading to potential diseases, infections, or tissue damage. Hypoxia, or low tissue oxygen, represents a critical condition that demands swift correction. Utilizing a hyperbaric chamber is an excellent method to counteract tissue hypoxia effectively.
What do you feel inside a hyperbaric chamber?
During pressurization, you may notice pressure changes in your ears, possibly leading to slight discomfort. To alleviate this, try yawning, swallowing, or gently blowing your nose to equalize the pressure, eradicating any sensation of fullness. Other than this ear pressure adjustment, there are no distinct or unusual sensations.
How does being inside a pressurized chamber give us more oxygen?
Within a chamber pressurized to 1.3 or 1.5 times normal air pressure, you may not feel a significant difference. However, breathing pure oxygen in this environment delivers 7-8 times the usual oxygen amount. Henry's Law reveals that the dissolved gas quantity in a liquid is proportional to its partial pressure. The pressurized oxygen dissolves into all body fluids, quickly elevating tissue oxygen levels beyond normal, scientifically proven to stimulate healing.
What improvements can I expect to see?
Improvement outcomes vary significantly, making it challenging to predict specific results. From experience, we anticipate enhancements in life quality. While individual results differ, it's rare not to see any improvements.
When will I know how many sessions of HBOT are enough?
The precise number of sessions required for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is undetermined. However, observing ongoing improvements provides a valuable indicator. Clinical studies on 1,730 subjects recommend around 15 sessions for acute injuries and approximately 40 for chronic conditions. If you experience positive outcomes within the initial 40 sessions, consider continuing with another 40. As long as improvements persist, keep progressing. Ultimately, you are the best judge of the necessary session count, surpassing even professional medical advice.
