Why is oxygen so important?
Every day, an average adult consumes 2 kg of food, 1 liter of water, and nearly 550 liters of oxygen. Astonishingly, 90% of our daily energy is sourced from oxygen, with the remaining 10% derived from food and water. Although the human brain comprises only 2% of our total body weight, it demands 25% of the oxygen we inhale. Oxygen is vital for the energy cycle that sustains life. Insufficient oxygen in body tissues triggers a cascade of adverse events that, if untreated, can lead to diseases such as infections or tissue destruction. When tissues experience low oxygen levels (hypoxia), there is a crucial window to address the deficiency. A highly effective method to combat tissue hypoxia is using a hyperbaric chamber.
What do you feel inside a hyperbaric chamber?
During pressurization inside the chamber, you may notice pressure changes in your ears, potentially causing mild discomfort. To equalize the pressure and relieve this sensation, you can employ techniques such as yawning, swallowing, or gently 'blowing your nose.' Aside from this ear pressure, there are no unusual or discomforting sensations experienced.
How does being inside a pressurized chamber give us more oxygen?
In a chamber pressurized to 1.3 or 1.5 times normal air pressure, the environment may seem unchanged, but breathing pure oxygen within this setting allows us to receive 7-8 times the typical oxygen intake. According to Henry's Law, the amount of gas dissolved in a liquid is directly proportional to its partial pressure. This pressurized oxygen rapidly dissolves into all body fluids, elevating tissue oxygen levels significantly above normal within minutes. Scientifically verified, this process effectively stimulates healing.
What improvements can I expect to see?
The range of potential improvements is vast, given the numerous variables involved, so we must generalize. From broad experience, we observe that improvements are common, though results vary per individual. Our primary aim is to enhance the quality of life for everyone.
When will I know how many sessions of HBOT are enough?
You won't have an exact number, but you can gauge whether improvements continue. A clinical study involving 1730 subjects suggests about 15 sessions for acute injuries and 40 for chronic ones. If you notice improvements within the first 40 sessions, consider doing another 40. Continue as you see fit. You are ultimately the best judge of how many sessions you need, possibly even better than a doctor.
