Why is oxygen so important?
On a daily basis, an average adult consumes approximately 2 kg of food, 1 liter of water, and an astonishing 550 liters of oxygen. A remarkable 90% of our energy is derived from oxygen, with the remaining 10% from food and water. The human brain, although only 2% of the body's total weight, demands 25% of the oxygen we inhale. Oxygen is essential for the energy cycle sustaining life, and inadequate oxygen levels in body tissues can lead to severe health issues, such as infections or tissue destruction. Hypoxia, the condition of low oxygen in tissues, requires immediate intervention. A hyperbaric chamber offers an exceptional solution to counteract tissue hypoxia effectively.
What do you feel inside a hyperbaric chamber?
During pressurization inside the chamber, you may experience pressure changes in your ears, similar to the sensation of descending in an airplane. If you feel slight ear discomfort, you can alleviate it by yawning, swallowing, or performing the Valsalva maneuver ('blowing the nose'). Apart from this ear adjustment, there are no unusual or discomforting sensations to worry about.
How does being inside a pressurized chamber give us more oxygen?
Inside a chamber pressurized to 1.3 or 1.5 times normal air pressure, you might not physically feel a difference. However, breathing pure oxygen in this environment allows for 7-8 times the typical oxygen intake. According to Henry's Law, the amount of gas dissolved in a liquid is proportional to its partial pressure. The pressurized oxygen seamlessly dissolves into all bodily fluids, rapidly elevating tissue oxygen levels beyond normal. This process has been scientifically verified to enhance healing and rejuvenate the body.
What improvements can I expect to see?
While results can vary due to numerous factors, general experience shows improvements in quality of life for most individuals. Although no two people will experience identical results, it is uncommon not to observe some positive changes.
When will I know how many sessions of HBOT are enough?
There's no exact answer, but you will notice continued improvements as a sign. A clinical study involving 1730 subjects indicates about 15 sessions may suffice for acute injuries, while chronic conditions may require around 40. If noticeable results occur within the first 40 sessions, consider continuing for another 40 to further enhance benefits. Trust your judgment to determine the appropriate number of sessions more effectively than any doctor could.
