Why is oxygen so important?
Oxygen is a vital component of our survival, with an average adult consuming nearly 550 liters daily, equating to 90% of our energy intake. The brain, although only 2% of body weight, consumes 25% of the oxygen we inhale. This essential element fuels the energy cycle critical to life. Insufficient oxygen in body tissues triggers detrimental events leading to infections or tissue damage. Tissue hypoxia, characterized by low oxygen levels, offers a critical opportunity for correction. A hyperbaric chamber is an excellent solution to address and correct hypoxia effectively.
What do you feel inside a hyperbaric chamber?
As the chamber pressurizes, you may experience a change in ear pressure, similar to changes felt during altitude shifts. This is easily alleviated by yawning, swallowing, or gently blowing the nose, preventing discomfort. Beyond this ear pressure adjustment, you should feel no unusual sensations, ensuring a comfortable experience.
How does being inside a pressurized chamber give us more oxygen?
Inside a chamber pressurized to 1.3 or 1.5 times normal air pressure, you may not initially notice any difference. However, breathing pure oxygen in this environment delivers 7-8 times the typical oxygen amount, based on Henry's Law. This principle dictates that gas dissolves in liquid proportionally to its partial pressure, allowing pressurized oxygen to infuse body fluids effectively. This rapid oxygenation elevates tissue oxygen levels, stimulating healing processes proven by scientific research.
What improvements can I expect to see?
Every individual's experience varies due to numerous factors, making it clear that results will differ. However, it is exceptionally common to observe improvements, with the primary goal being an enhanced quality of life for all participants.
When will I know how many sessions of HBOT are enough?
The number of sessions required isn't set in stone. You should observe your progress; clinical studies indicate roughly 15 sessions for acute injuries and 40 for chronic conditions. If beneficial results arise within the first 40 sessions, another set may be warranted. Continue as long as improvements persist, trusting your judgment over time to decide the necessary session count.
