Why is oxygen so important?
Oxygen is a vital element, as every day the average adult takes in around 2 kg of food, 1 liter of water, and a staggering 550 liters of oxygen. An astounding 90% of our daily energy is derived from oxygen, with the remainder sourced from food and water. Interestingly, despite the brain comprising just 2% of body weight, it consumes 25% of our oxygen intake. Oxygen fuels the energy cycle that sustains life, and insufficient levels in body tissues can trigger adverse events, potentially leading to infections or tissue damage if not addressed. When tissues experience low oxygen levels (hypoxia), there's a brief window to rectify this. A highly effective method to counteract tissue hypoxia is through hyperbaric chamber therapy.
What do you feel inside a hyperbaric chamber?
Upon pressurization of the chamber, you may notice changes in ear pressure, occasionally causing discomfort. To alleviate this sensation, you can try yawning, swallowing, or gently blowing your nose to equalize the pressure. Beyond these mild ear pressure changes, you won't experience any unusual or distinct sensations.
How does being inside a pressurized chamber give us more oxygen?
Within a chamber pressurized at 1.3 to 1.5 times normal air pressure, you might not feel a difference, but inhaling pure oxygen in such conditions provides 7-8 times the usual oxygen intake. According to Henry's Law, the amount of gas dissolved in a liquid is proportional to its partial pressure at a gas-liquid interface. This pressurized oxygen seamlessly dissolves into body fluids, rapidly elevating tissue oxygen levels. Scientifically proven, this elevated oxygenation stimulates healing effectively.
What improvements can I expect to see?
The outcomes of hyperbaric therapy vary significantly among individuals, with results depending on numerous factors. However, most users report noteworthy improvements, primarily aiming for enhanced quality of life. While individual results differ, it is rare not to observe positive changes.
When will I know how many sessions of hbot are enough?
The number of required sessions isn't predetermined. Instead, observe whether improvements persist. Clinical studies involving 1,730 participants suggest approximately 15 sessions for acute injuries and 40 for chronic conditions. If you see progress in the initial 40 sessions, consider continuing. Monitor improvements, and if they persist, continue. You are often the best judge of session needs, even more so than a doctor.
