Why is oxygen so important?
Oxygen is vital for life, utterly indispensable. An average adult consumes about 2 kg of food, 1 liter of water, and a staggering 550 liters of oxygen daily. Remarkably, 90% of our daily energy stems from oxygen, with the remainder from food and water. Although our brain accounts for just 2% of body weight, it demands 25% of the oxygen we breathe to fuel the energy cycle that underpins life. A deficiency of oxygen in body tissues precipitates a sequence of adverse events that, if unresolved, can manifest as disease, infection, or tissue damage. In scenarios of tissue hypoxia—low oxygen—a brief window exists to rectify it, and hyperbaric chambers offer an exceptional solution to this issue.
What do you feel inside a hyperbaric chamber?
During the pressurization of the chamber, your ears may sense pressure changes, potentially causing slight discomfort. To alleviate this, you can equalize the pressure by yawning, swallowing, or performing the "blow the nose" technique. Beyond this, there are no unusual sensations, ensuring a comfortable experience.
How does being inside a pressurized chamber give us more oxygen?
Inside a chamber pressurized to 1.3 or 1.5 times normal air pressure, the experience might not seem different. However, breathing pure oxygen in such conditions provides a remarkable 7-8 times the usual oxygen intake. According to Henry's Law, the amount of gas that dissolves in a liquid is proportional to its partial pressure. This pressurized oxygen efficiently dissolves into body fluids, rapidly elevating tissue oxygen levels to significantly higher than normal, a scientifically validated process known to invigorate healing.
What improvements can I expect to see?
The potential improvements are as varied as they are numerous, often requiring generalized answers due to the many variables involved. Based on extensive experience, most individuals experience an enhancement in their quality of life. While results can vary from one person to another, it is exceptionally rare not to observe any improvements.
When will I know how many sessions of HBOT are enough?
Determining the exact number of HBOT sessions needed can be elusive. However, you will notice if improvements continue with more sessions. A clinical study involving 1,730 subjects suggests approximately 15 sessions for acute injuries and 40 for chronic conditions. If you observe improvements within the initial 40 sessions, consider an additional 40. Continue as long as improvements persist. Ultimately, you are the best judge of the appropriate number of sessions.
