Why is oxygen so important?
Oxygen is vital for life: the average adult consumes 2 kg of food, 1 liter of water, and astonishingly, nearly 550 liters of oxygen daily. Oxygen fuels 90% of our daily energy, while food and water provide the remainder. The human brain, a mere 2% of body weight, consumes a staggering 25% of the oxygen we inhale to sustain the energy cycle essential for life. Insufficient oxygen in body tissues triggers events that can lead to disease, infections, or tissue destruction if uncorrected. Low tissue oxygen (hypoxia) presents a brief window for correction, and an effective solution is the use of a hyperbaric chamber to restore oxygen levels.
What do you feel inside a hyperbaric chamber?
Inside the hyperbaric chamber, as it pressurizes, your ears may feel the pressure changes, possibly causing a slight discomfort. To equalize this, you can yawn, swallow, or gently blow your nose to alleviate any fullness. Other than the ear pressure, the experience remains soothing and free from unusual sensations.
How does being inside a pressurized chamber give us more oxygen?
Within a hyperbaric chamber, pressurized to 1.3 or 1.5 times normal air pressure, the environment may seem ordinary, but breathing pure oxygen becomes extraordinary, delivering 7-8 times more oxygen than usual. According to Henry's Law, the gas dissolved in a liquid is proportional to its pressure; thus, the pressurized oxygen permeates all body fluids efficiently. In mere minutes, this surplus oxygen elevates tissue oxygen to levels that promote healing, as scientifically validated.
What improvements can I expect to see?
Anticipating results from hyperbaric therapy encompasses numerous variables; thus, generalizations often arise. While outcomes vary, improvements are common, with the primary goal being enhanced life quality for everyone who partakes in the therapy.
When will I know how many sessions of hbot are enough?
Determining the exact number of necessary HBOT sessions is subjective and relies on personal observations of continuous improvements. Clinical studies with 1730 subjects suggest around 15 sessions for acute injuries and 40 for chronic conditions. If progress is noted in the first 40 sessions, another 40 may be beneficial. This cycle continues as long as benefits are observed, placing you as the best judge of your therapy needs over any doctor.
