Why is oxygen so important?
Every day, the average adult consumes approximately 2 kg of food, 1 liter of water, and nearly 550 liters of oxygen. Astonishingly, 90% of our daily energy is derived from oxygen, with the remainder furnished by food and water. This is because the human brain, which constitutes a mere 2% of body weight, actually utilizes 25% of the oxygen we breathe! This oxygen is essential for the vital energy cycle that sustains life itself. When our body tissues are deprived of sufficient oxygen, a series of adverse events ensue, potentially leading to disease conditions such as infection or tissue destruction. If hypoxia, a condition of low oxygen in tissues, arises, there is only a brief window to remedy it. One of the premier methods to address tissue hypoxia is through the use of a hyperbaric chamber.
What do you feel inside a hyperbaric chamber?
During pressurization within the chamber, you may experience a sensation of pressure changes in your ears, which might feel slightly painful. To alleviate this, simply equalize the pressure by yawning, swallowing, or gently 'blowing your nose.' Beyond this, you should not experience any unusual or discomforting sensations.
How does being inside a pressurized chamber give us more oxygen?
Inside a chamber pressurized to 1.3 or 1.5 times the normal atmospheric pressure, it may not feel noticeably different, but the act of breathing pure oxygen within such an environment allows the body to absorb 7-8 times the regular amount of oxygen. This phenomenon is explained by Henry's Law, which states that the amount of gas dissolved in a liquid at a gas-liquid interface is proportional to its partial pressure. In the chamber, the pressurized oxygen dissolves directly into all body fluids, rapidly elevating tissue oxygen levels to heights far beyond normal. This process is scientifically validated to promote healing.
What improvements can I expect to see?
This question encompasses a multitude of variables and potential outcomes requiring generalization. From our extensive experience, while results vary widely among individuals, it is exceedingly uncommon not to observe any improvement. Our goal is to enhance the quality of life for everyone.
When will I know how many sessions of HBOT are enough?
Determining the exact number of necessary sessions can be elusive. However, you will notice ongoing improvements as a guiding indicator. A clinical study encompassing 1,730 subjects suggests around 15 sessions for acute injuries and 40 for chronic conditions. If you witness progress within the initial 40 sessions, consider extending for another set of 40. Continual improvements could warrant additional sessions. Ultimately, you are the best judge of how many sessions are needed, surpassing any doctor's assessment.
