Why is oxygen so important?
Oxygen is simply vital: an average adult consumes approximately 2 kg of food, 1 liter of water, and breathes nearly 550 liters of oxygen daily. Astonishingly, 90% of our energy is derived from oxygen, with only 10% from food and water. The human brain, making up a mere 2% of our body weight, demands a remarkable 25% of the oxygen we inhale. Oxygen fuels the energy cycle that keeps us alive. Insufficient oxygen (hypoxia) in body tissues can lead to detrimental effects, including infection and tissue destruction, if not rectified swiftly. A hyperbaric chamber is a remarkable solution for addressing tissue hypoxia.
What do you feel inside a hyperbaric chamber?
During the pressurization process within the chamber, you may notice pressure changes in your ears, potentially causing discomfort. To alleviate this, you can yawn, swallow, or gently 'blow the nose' to equalize the pressure, eliminating any feeling of fullness. Aside from this ear pressure sensation, you won't experience any unusual or different sensations.
How does being inside a pressurized chamber give us more oxygen?
While inside a chamber pressurized to 1.3 or 1.5 times the normal air pressure, the environment may feel familiar; however, breathing pure oxygen in such conditions provides 7-8 times the usual oxygen intake. According to Henry's Law, the amount of gas dissolved in a liquid is proportional to its partial pressure. Thus, pressurized oxygen is absorbed directly into the body fluids, elevating tissue oxygen levels significantly in a matter of minutes. This process has been scientifically validated to accelerate healing.
What improvements can I expect to see ?
This query encompasses numerous variables and outcomes, thus requiring a generalized response. Based on extensive experience, we observe improvements in most cases. The primary focus is enhancing the quality of life for each individual, recognizing that results vary from person to person.
When will I know how many sessions of hbot are enough?
Determining the necessary number of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) sessions is subjective. Observing ongoing improvements is key. Clinical studies on 1,730 subjects suggest approximately 15 sessions for acute injuries and 40 for chronic conditions. If results are seen in the initial 40 sessions, consider continuing additional sessions in sets of 40 as long as improvements persist. You are ultimately the best judge of the required sessions, surpassing even a doctor's assessment.
