Why is oxygen so important?
Oxygen is an essential cornerstone of life. On average, an adult consumes around 2 kg of food, 1 liter of water, and breathes nearly 550 liters of oxygen daily. A staggering 90% of our daily energy is derived from oxygen, with the rest being sourced from food and water. Remarkably, although the human brain constitutes just 2% of the body's weight, it utilizes 25% of the oxygen we inhale, fueling the energy cycle vital for life. Insufficient oxygen levels in body tissues can trigger detrimental events leading to disease, infection, or tissue destruction. Correcting low oxygen levels (hypoxia) swiftly is crucial, and a hyperbaric chamber offers an outstanding method to address tissue hypoxia effectively.
What do you feel inside a hyperbaric chamber?
During chamber pressurization, you may notice changes in ear pressure, possibly feeling slight ear discomfort. To equalize pressure and alleviate ear fullness, you can yawn, swallow, or gently 'blow your nose.' These techniques will help you adapt, as no other unusual sensations are experienced aside from this minor ear pressure.
How does being inside a pressurized chamber give us more oxygen?
While inside a chamber pressurized to 1.3 or 1.5 times normal air pressure, you might not perceive much difference. However, breathing pure oxygen under such conditions provides a remarkable 7-8 times the standard oxygen intake. According to Henry's Law, the amount of gas that dissolves in a liquid is proportional to its partial pressure. Under pressure, the oxygen dissolves directly into all body fluids, rapidly elevating tissue oxygen levels far beyond the norm. This process has been scientifically validated to accelerate healing, demonstrating significant therapeutic potential.
What improvements can I expect to see?
While outcomes can vary greatly, users generally experience a noticeable enhancement in their quality of life. Most people report improvements, even though specific results differ from person to person. It's rare not to observe positive changes, focusing on enhancing overall life satisfaction.
When will I know how many sessions of HBOT are enough?
Determining the optimal number of HBOT sessions is subjective. You'll notice improvements as you continue treatment. Evidence from a clinical study involving 1730 subjects suggests about 15 sessions for acute injuries and 40 for chronic conditions. If you experience positive results within the first 40 sessions, it may be beneficial to continue with additional sessions. Your personal judgment on treatment progression will often be more insightful than a doctor's recommendation.
