Why is oxygen so important?
Every day, an average adult consumes 2 kg of food, 1 liter of water, and almost 550 liters of oxygen. Remarkably, 90% of our daily energy derives from oxygen, while the remainder comes from food and water. The human brain, constituting just 2% of body weight, utilizes a significant 25% of the oxygen we inhale. Oxygen is vital for sustaining life's energy cycle. Insufficient oxygen in body tissues can trigger events leading to disease, whether through infection, tissue destruction, or both. Low tissue oxygen levels (hypoxia) necessitate a prompt response to prevent adverse conditions. An effective solution for correcting tissue hypoxia is the use of a hyperbaric chamber, which elevates oxygen levels efficiently.
What do you feel inside a hyperbaric chamber?
As the chamber pressurizes, you may notice pressure changes in your ears, possibly causing some discomfort. To equalize and alleviate ear pressure, try yawning, swallowing, or gently 'blowing the nose.' Beyond the ear pressure, you will not experience any unusual or different sensations, making the therapy session comfortable and relaxing.
How does being inside a pressurized chamber give us more oxygen?
Inside a chamber pressurized to 1.3 or 1.5 times normal air pressure, you might not feel much different. However, breathing pure oxygen in such an environment provides 7-8 times the usual oxygen intake. According to Henry's Law, the gas-liquid interface allows the gas to dissolve in the liquid proportionally to its partial pressure. As pressurized oxygen dissolves into all body fluids, tissue oxygen levels rise significantly within minutes. This scientifically-proven process stimulates healing effectively.
What improvements can I expect to see?
This question encompasses numerous variables, and answers can vary widely. Based on general experience, we can say that improvements are frequently observed, though individual results will differ. Our focus is on enhancing the quality of life for each person, ensuring they experience positive changes through therapy.
When will I know how many sessions of HBOT are enough?
You will determine this through your own observations of progress. A clinical study of 1,730 subjects suggests around 15 sessions for acute injuries and 40 for chronic conditions are beneficial. If results are evident during the first 40 sessions, consider continuing for another 40. If improvements persist, proceed with further sessions. Ultimately, you are a better judge of your needs than any doctor, deciding based on personal experience.
