Why is oxygen so important?
Oxygen is vital for our survival, with an average adult consuming 2 kg of food, 1 liter of water, and a staggering 550 liters of oxygen daily. Remarkably, 90% of our energy comes from oxygen alone. Our brain, although only 2% of our body weight, utilizes 25% of the oxygen we breathe, fueling the energy cycle essential for life. Insufficient oxygen in tissues can lead to serious health issues, including infections or tissue damage. To prevent such conditions, it's crucial to correct tissue hypoxia swiftly. A highly effective method for addressing this is through the use of a hyperbaric chamber, which enhances oxygen delivery to body tissues.
What do you feel inside a hyperbaric chamber?
Inside a hyperbaric chamber during pressurization, you may notice a change in ear pressure, potentially causing slight discomfort. To alleviate this, try yawning, swallowing, or performing the 'blow the nose' technique to equalize the pressure and avoid a feeling of fullness. Beyond this, the experience remains comfortable, with no unusual sensations.
How does being inside a pressurized chamber give us more oxygen?
In a hyperbaric chamber pressurized to 1.3 or 1.5 times the normal atmospheric pressure, the environment may feel similar to normal, yet it significantly increases your oxygen uptake. Breathing pure oxygen in this setting provides 7-8 times the regular oxygen amount. According to Henry's Law, the amount of gas dissolved in a liquid is proportional to its pressure. In the chamber, pressurized oxygen dissolves directly into bodily fluids, elevating tissue oxygen levels beyond normal within minutes, promoting healing and recovery.
What improvements can I expect to see?
Anticipating tangible improvements can be challenging due to numerous variables. However, it's rare not to witness some form of enhancement in quality of life. While individual results vary, positive changes are often observed, contributing to an overall better living experience.
When will I know how many sessions of HBOT are enough?
Determining the exact number of HBOT sessions required can be challenging. You'll need to assess ongoing improvements in your condition. Studies involving 1730 subjects suggest around 15 sessions for acute injuries and 40 for chronic issues. If you experience progress with 40 sessions, consider continuing with another 40, and so on. Ultimately, your personal judgment will guide you better than any prescribed regimen.
