Why is oxygen so important?
Every day, an average adult consumes 2 kg of food, 1 liter of water, and nearly 550 liters of oxygen. An astounding 90% of our daily energy is derived from oxygen, while the remainder comes from food and water. The human brain, which makes up only 2% of our total body weight, utilizes a remarkable 25% of the oxygen we breathe. Oxygen is essential for the energy cycle that sustains life. Inadequate oxygen in our body tissues sets off a chain of events that, if left uncorrected, can lead to disease conditions, including infection and tissue destruction. When tissue oxygen levels are low (hypoxia), there is a brief window of opportunity to address it. An exceptional method to alleviate tissue hypoxia is by using a hyperbaric chamber.
What do you feel inside a hyperbaric chamber?
During pressurization in the chamber, you may experience changes in ear pressure, which can cause slight discomfort. To equalize the pressure and prevent a sensation of fullness in the ears, you can yawn, swallow, or 'blow the nose.' Besides this ear pressure, there are no other unusual or different sensations.
How does being inside a pressurized chamber give us more oxygen?
While inside a chamber pressurized to 1.3 or 1.5 times the normal air pressure, you may not feel much difference, but breathing pure oxygen in such an environment provides 7-8 times the usual amount of oxygen. According to Henry's Law, the amount of gas that dissolves in a liquid at a gas-liquid interface is proportional to its partial pressure. The pressurized oxygen dissolves directly into all body fluids, and within minutes, this extra oxygen boosts tissue oxygen levels far beyond normal. This scientifically proven action stimulates healing.
What improvements can I expect to see?
This question has numerous variables and potential answers, so we must generalize. Based on general experience, although no two people achieve the same results, it is rare not to observe improvements. Our goal is to enhance the quality of life for everyone.
When will I know how many sessions of HBOT are enough?
The journey to enhanced wellness is a unique experience for everyone. While you may not always immediately notice each incremental benefit, the true measure lies in the ongoing improvements you experience. A comprehensive clinical study involving 1,730 individuals has demonstrated the necessity of approximately 15 sessions for acute injuries, while chronic conditions often require around 40. If you observe positive changes within the initial 40 sessions, feel empowered to continue with an additional 40 sessions. Should you still see progress, feel free to pursue another set of 40 sessions. Remember, no doctor knows your body quite like you do, making you the best judge of how many sessions are ideal for you.
Concerns about Oxygen Toxicity: What You Need to Know
When it comes to Oxygen Toxicity, rest assured that it is not a concern at pressures below 1.5 ATA. Often, what might be perceived as oxygen toxicity is actually stress. However, there are rare instances where a patient may exhibit heightened sensitivity to oxygen. In such cases, pressure adjustments can be made to tailor the therapy precisely to meet the individual's needs. Your comfort and safety are our top priorities.
