Why is oxygen so important?
Oxygen is vital to our survival, with the average adult consuming roughly 2 kg of food, 1 liter of water, and a remarkable 550 liters of oxygen daily. An astonishing 90% of our energy is derived from oxygen, with our brain—though only 2% of our body weight—consuming a significant 25% of it. This essential element fuels the energy cycle that sustains life. Insufficient oxygen in body tissues can lead to serious health issues, including infections or tissue destruction. However, tissue hypoxia—a dangerous condition of low oxygen—is reversible within a brief window of opportunity. Utilizing a hyperbaric chamber is an excellent way to restore adequate oxygen levels and promote healing.
What do you feel inside a hyperbaric chamber?
During pressurization within the chamber, you may detect changes in ear pressure, which can sometimes cause mild discomfort. To alleviate this sensation, you can yawn, swallow, or gently blow your nose to equalize the pressure and prevent a feeling of fullness. Aside from this, there are no other unusual or uncomfortable sensations.
How does being inside a pressurized chamber give us more oxygen?
Inside a chamber pressurized to 1.3 or 1.5 times normal atmospheric pressure, the environment may feel similar, but breathing pure oxygen significantly increases intake—up to 7-8 times more than usual. According to Henry's Law, the amount of gas dissolved in a liquid is proportional to its partial pressure. Thus, pressurized oxygen dissolves directly into body fluids, rapidly elevating tissue oxygen levels. This process is scientifically proven to be highly effective in stimulating the body's natural healing processes.
What improvements can I expect to see?
Though individual results vary, it's uncommon not to observe positive changes. Generally speaking, improvements may manifest in enhanced quality of life. While specific outcomes depend on numerous variables, many users report notable progress in their overall well-being.
When will I know how many sessions of HBOT are enough?
The optimal number of sessions isn't predetermined, but rather assessed by the ongoing benefits you experience. Studies involving 1730 participants suggest around 15 sessions for acute injuries and 40 for chronic conditions. If you notice improvements within the first 40 sessions, consider continuing with another set of 40. As long as benefits persist, additional sessions are encouraged. Ultimately, your personal observations are the most reliable guide for determining the necessary number of treatments.
