Why is oxygen so important?
Each day, the average adult consumes 2 kg of food, 1 liter of water, and inhales nearly 550 liters of oxygen. Astonishingly, 90% of our daily energy is derived from oxygen, with food and water making up the remainder. The human brain, while only 2% of body weight, demands 25% of the oxygen we breathe. This vital element fuels the energy cycle essential for life. Insufficient oxygen in tissues can initiate adverse events, potentially leading to infections, tissue damage, or both if left unaddressed. Low oxygen in tissues, known as hypoxia, presents a narrow window for correction. A hyperbaric chamber is a remarkable method to alleviate tissue hypoxia.
What do you feel inside a hyperbaric chamber?
During pressurization, you may notice changes in ear pressure, possibly causing slight discomfort. To alleviate this sensation of fullness, you can yawn, swallow, or gently 'blow your nose.' Beyond these ear pressure adjustments, no other unusual sensations occur.
How does being inside a pressurized chamber give us more oxygen?
Within a chamber pressurized at 1.3 to 1.5 times normal air pressure, you may not perceive a difference; however, breathing pure oxygen here significantly amplifies oxygen intake — up to 7-8 times more than usual. According to Henry's Law, the gas dissolved in a liquid is proportional to its partial pressure. As a result, this pressurized oxygen dissolves into all body fluids, rapidly elevating tissue oxygen levels beyond normal. This process is scientifically proven to promote healing effectively.
What improvements can I expect to see?
This question encompasses numerous variables, so a generalized answer is necessary. Our response is based on general experience, acknowledging that individual results vary. Rarely do we fail to observe improvements. Our focus is on enhancing the quality of life for each individual.
When will I know how many sessions of HBOT are enough?
You won't have a definitive number. What you will notice is whether improvements persist. A clinical study involving 1,730 subjects suggests around 15 sessions for acute injuries and 40 for chronic ones. If you observe progress within the first 40 sessions, consider adding another 40. If improvements continue, extend by another 40. Ultimately, you are the most qualified judge of the number of sessions you require.
